Report a tag to help us learn more about the sportfish you love.
Tagging helps us learn more about how the marine species we study interact with the environment. We can know which species are being caught during certain seasons of the year and their general movement patterns along the coast. If a tagged fish is recaptured, scientists can start to understand which areas are important to these species seasonally, as well as how far they travel and what may be driving these movements. Additional information such as differences in the fish size between the initial tagging and recapture events can also help us to calculate growth rates. This is important when monitoring the health of an ecosystem and for the management of these species.
